Gopalakrishna M. Kamath
Prof. Harursampath heads NMCAD Lab at Dept. of Aerospace Engg. in Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India. He received his PhD from Georgia Tech, ranked world no. 1 inGopal Kamath has more than two decades of aerospace experience in varied ecosystems spanning academia, research & development and aircraft industry. He has worked in the CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), the Tata group of companies, and Bombardier Aerospace. He is a recipient of Vertical Flight Foundation award from the American Helicopter Society, the Minta- Martin fellowship from the University of Maryland. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. Gopal Kamath obtained his Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. He received his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park, USA. His professional interests include aircraft structural health monitoring, corrosion fatigue, bio-mimetic and composite materials & structures. He has co-authored more than fifty technical publications. aerospace engineering recently, ME from IISc, consistently ranked as the no. 1 university in India & BTech from IIT-Madras, ranked no. 1 engineering college in India, all in aerospace engineering as a top ranker. He is also a visiting professor at ENS Cachan, France; TU Delft, Netherlands; PoliMi & PoliTo, Italy and teaches online courses for Arizona University, NUS & NTU, apart from continuing education programs for the industry in the area of composites and flight vehicle structures and design. With millions of US dollars in funding from the Govt. of India, Boeing, Bell Helicopters etc., he has advised nearly a hundred PhD & Masters students, resulting in over 250 journal & international conference articles. He takes pride in his HRD & placement efforts as many of his students are now professors at IITs or seniors at PSUs & MNCs. Prof. Harursampath was listed amongst Top 10 Faculty in Tier-1 Engineering and Research Institutions in India in aerospace structure design by leading Global Management Consulting Firm Zinnov, Sep 2013. He and his student teams have won more than a dozen major international awards just in the last one year, including the Olympics of Aerospace Engineers: UNESCO Fly Your Ideas & Airbus Innovation Showdown. He also coordinates the Indian academia for Airbus Link the Top program & is widely covered by the popular media.
